10 Ways to Spot a HubPages Addict Right Off
(WRITER’S NOTE: this is fondly-dedicated to Catgypsy; Tammyswallow; CrisSp; Breakfast Pop; Shades-of-Truth; Arachnea; Faith Reaper; Favored; Lifegate; Lucky Cats; Lupine; The Examiner-1; Writer Fox, vkwok and many more followers, new and enduring. At the risk of sounding cliché and corny, I would not be anywhere on this amazing website, HubPages, without their patience, advise, healthy-criticism, love, and humor. Sincerely, Kenneth).
In June of 2015 I will have been a member of HubPages, the place where you are reading this story. On this site, stories are called “hubs,” and I have never understood that thinking, nor have I ever had the nerve to ask the editors of HubPages, “why?” I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that these guys and girls have much to do about everything that is HubPages. From answering legal to technical questions and on top of their responsibilities, they also fix “bugs” that sometimes find their way into the technical make-up of this world-wide website.
Who, or What, is HubPages?
- HubPages is a user generated content, revenue-sharing website. On December 7, 2013, the website published data that showed that the website consisted of 910,106 "Hubs" (magazine-style articles on a specific topic), 73,969 published users, and 2,498,967 forum posts.
- The site launched on August 6, 2006, funded by a US $2 million investment from Hummer Winblad. The three founders, Paul Edmonson, Paul Deeds, and Jay Reitz, are former employees of Microsoft and were part of the startup MongoMusic.
- According to Quantcast, HubPages has become one of the 50 most-visited U.S. sites on the Internet. In a November 2013 Quantcast monthly report, the website received around 16.1 million unique U.S. visits and over 30.9 million unique global visits, with more users accessing the site from computer browsers than with mobile devices.

HubPages is almost everywhere
And by the term world-wide, I am not kidding. In my short time of being a member of HubPages, I have read stories, errr, I mean, hubs, from writers in India, Hawaii, California and Oklahoma. This is a very short list of the places that the hubbers originate. I just wish I had the space to name all of the places that I have been blessed to “visit” via the internet and my trust laptop. But when you endure Fibromyalgia, Neurothopy and Thrombosclorosis, your time is limited on how long you can type or even participate in the easiest of life’s opportunities.
I have made a lot of genuine, sincere, and loving friends on HubPages. I am totally-serious. Yes, serious. This is not comfortable for me, being serious when most of my materials are of a comical-nature. My thinking is this: If I can make one reader happy for one moment, then my life has not been lived in vain.
I suppose you have sometimes wondered “how” you can spot one of us hubbers while in a crowded shopping mall or while attending a Fourth of July parade. Well, it’s not that tough. I used to be just like you, wondering why “certain” people did certain things. Then when I joined the wonderful ranks of HubPages, it hit me one day similar to a diesel truck hauling cement.
"THANK YOU to ALL of My Cherished-Followers for making my last three years on HubPages being one of the best experiences I have ever had in my years on this earth."
"I could not have went this far without YOU, Followers."
"In fact . . .I Thank God above for each of you. And Wish You ALL more Success and Joy that you can fathom."
Sincerely,
KENNETH
Hubbers are not your average, “garden variety” people. Not that they are beasts or have criminal records. I cannot really explain this to you except by saying that there is just “that” certain quality about a hubber that for some magical reason causes them to stand-out from the crowd unawares. I know. I have experienced this amazing phenomena. And it bears no explanation.
But instead of boring you with details, please allow me to share with you
10 Ways That You Can Spot a Member of HubPages Right Off
- 10.) Hubbers are constantly gazing outward over a body of water. Somehow they find needed-imspiration from water and the beach where lovers, young and old alike, congregate for those priceless love moments.
- 9.) Hubbers have “that” determined look on their faces almost all of the time. This is what they call “staying focused.” Some hubbers are so focused that they miss meals, great television shows and dates with hot girls to just get to write another hub.
- 8.) Hubbers are always frantically-running around asking friends and strangers alike, “What would you say is the most unusual experience you have ever had?” To just run home and outline what might be an Editor’s Choice hub.
- 7.) Hubbers are sometimes thought of as “loners,” for they love to be free of social obligations and daily responsibilities and anything that might hamper them from banging their keyboard to publish their newest hub: “Ways to Have Fun While Being Alone.”
- 6.) (Some) hubbers are a bit insecure. You can spot this trait by watching people at a reunion and those who are always wearing their laptop via leather strap are the insecure people. And when the time is right, these inscure people (which I confess that I am insecure) get a group of people who are discussing their callings in life and the hubber instantly calls up the HubPages mainframe and shows them every hub he or she has written in hopes to get a few pats on the back.
- 5.) Hubbers’ rooms and homes are definitely storage areas for all types of books on famous authors, self-help books on “How to Be a Successful Author,” and DVD’s by the rack on “Quick Writing Tips,” that these hubbers depend on to improve their writing.
- 4.) Hubbers very seldom have full social lives—dates every night, dinners with friends and going on cruises. These writers are so dedicated to their craft, they have learned to live on sacrifice, because one book they read stated that Hemingway, Hunter Thompson, and Poe all lived in some sort of pain and sacrifice and these hubbers think if they sacrifice so much, success will happen to them also.
- 3.) Hubbers do not make good dates. I am not being harsh, just observant. The most-dedicated hubber will definitely want to talk writing and publishing even with people who are not the least bit interested in these topics.
- 2.) Hubbers despise the terms: Rejection; Re-edit; Re-write; Delete; and Re-Publish. Oh, and “Paying Dues.” Most all hubbers who have not published a successful book, screenplay or essay, all think they are “paying dues.” (Although I am just an almost-four-year HubPages member, I can go ahead and declare that there are no “ivory towers” in or around HubPages in which to steal-away and stare down at the newest HubPages members who are just trying to write good pieces and earn some cash.
- 1.) Go into any of those “Free Wi-Fi” coffee houses that we see cropping-up so much in our bigger cities. Anyone can spot the Hubber for they are the ones with several empty coffee cups and staring into their laptop screens. Plus, you can see the crumpled paper lying on the table—failed attempts to get “the perfect” outline for a hub the first try.
- Bonus Tip: Hubbers do not have names like regular writers. They have names like : Jodah; Greeneyedblondie; sheilamyers; Mary615; Tilsontitan; Jaye Wisdom and vkwok.
I think I will test you to see if you really can spot a hubber out in public. What I plan on doing is leaving my home in the next few days and just see how many of you can spot me without any trouble.
